The trouble with doing a tough race and then having a week of rest, is that the first week that you get back to training is really hard. This week was nothing special, I just did all the usual training that do every week, but it felt so much harder. The good news is that I managed to do all the exercises that I normally do, so that was good. It was funny that I struggled to go up relatively minor hills and thought of the mountain that I had run up two weeks ago. Utterly pathetic I thought as my quads, upper front leg muscles, complained bitterly. Rather like with a petulant child, the best thing to do is ignore, so I just ran on and by the end of the week my legs started to free up and work properly. If only it was that easy with children!
The only exception to that was Sunday. I left the house later than I should to do my run and it was very hot. My the time that I had done just half a mile, my mouth was parched and I hadn’t taken any water. I was due to do 10 miles, but I had to cut that short and do 6 miles.
Next week, this week as you are reading this, is my next push and I will be increasing my distances and changing my gym routine. A hard week ahead, but pain and progress always come hand in hand. Watch this space for updates.
